Vlogs

In the absence of interviews, vlogs are another good way to familiarize yourself with the visual and temperamental aspects of different types.  Notice John’s facial expressions, eye movements, posture, mannerisms, and speech patterns.  Over time, you will recognize similar patterns in other ISTPs.

YouTube Content

Although not as immediately apparent as in vlogs, a person’s type shines through in the work they create as well.  Notice the themes, content, and approach John uses in his YouTube videos.  What light can this shed on the mind of ISTPs in general?

  1. Could you do an explanation for him, even just a quick one? Specifically where you see inferior Fe?

    1. It’s hard to split functions like that because they tend to work in tandem, but for instance in his Until Dawn playthrough, his reaction to the option to shoot the squirrel shows weak but valued Fe. He acted like it was a purely logical choice – “I didn’t want to kill the squirrel. I knew that was a butterfly effect.” Later in the game he admits, “Of course I’m not going to hurt the animals. You guys know me. I love animals.” Having kind of a delayed reaction and lack of self-awareness about one’s own emotions is typical of inferior Fe. Link here: https://youtu.be/f4BeTTTPaVQ?t=29m34s

Generally though, I do type holistically rather than splitting it into functions, but a few more things that give John away as an ISTP are along the lines of his negligible reaction to jump scares (xxTx, especially IxTx), his styling and artwork shows strong Se but low Fe, his memory is fantastic which points to strong Si (demonstrative in his case), he’s always apologizing for random things that don’t need to be apologized for (Fe in general, especially when low and valued), he goes on really long explanations of technical problems (that’s an ISTx, especially ISTP, thing), he’s extremely quick and accurate at QTEs (probably both ISxPs would be best at that).

Also, and not for nothing, I mean…ISTPs are my duals. I know one when I see one. They’re fucking hot lol. That’s not exactly a transferable tip I suppose though. 😛

      Hope this helps!
